As well-known, BiCon – Business intelligence and strategy, is dedicated to Business Intelligence projects. However, a reader expounded that this concept is not that intuitive as we considered. Analyzing the comment, I found that this concept do not reflects clearly the meaning of these techniques. The set of strategies and tools focused to management, and knowledge by analyzing existing data in a company, is called Business Intelligence. In other words, Business Intelligence refers to the use of enterprise data to help the making-decision system and the information structuring to be analyzed by each level of the organizational hierarchical structure and with the right detail level for each user of the system.

The Business Intelligence is not a just a methodology, it’s a technological infrastructure that allows the information to flow from the length to the width of the company. Business intelligence tools feed from data information systems, extracted from the different functional units of the company and allows an almost automatic knowledge of the status. The methodological or the strategic part fits the appropriate use of information and the technological structure based focus on the company organizational goals.

If we ask ourselves if business intelligence is for all companies, the answer would be: it’s for any company that reached an appropriate maturity level collecting and using the information, the one that produces and supports your business; either for all companies that are ready and available to invest in this technology infrastructure with the respective support to manage the change.
